Assured. Dedicated. Compassionate.
Former England Gundog team member Laura Hill is a BIPDT accredited trainer who competes in field trials and working tests. She is an A Panel Field Trial Judge (retrievers) and has judged and trained in the UK and Europe. She is also the author of “Advanced Retriever Training”, which can be bought here.
Laura has qualified for the IGL Retriever Championships more than ten times since 2009, with seven different dogs. To date, she has made up seven Field Trial Champions (five of which are homebred).
As well as running in the winning England Team at both the Retriever World Cup at Highclere 2011, and the International Gundog event at the CLA Game Fair 2011, she was also part of 'Team GB' at the inaugural Kennel Club retriever International test at Chatsworth 2011.
In 2013, Laura was selected for the England Team event at the CLA Game Fair, where she also captained Team GB to victory at the Euro Challenge, and took the prize for the top individual handler. And in 2018, Laura was again a member of the England Team for all three International events.
In 2019, the Kennel Club awarded Laura the Hanlye Trophy for breeding the highest scoring Retriever in Field Trials 2018/19 (FT CH Stauntonvale Tic Bean), and also the Gavosie Trophy for the top female handler 2018/19 across all Gundog sub-groups. These three awards were repeated in 2021 (for FT CH Stauntonvale Lemon Posset).

Laura trains her own dogs using positive, reward-based methods. She specialises in retriever breeds. Her approach is very much one of understanding the dog and the learning process.
Using her years of experience from competing and extensive knowledge of learning theory, Laura has the ability to analyse the partnership you have with your dog and break down the component parts of successful retriever work. Her aim is to make training enjoyable and beneficial at every level - beginner right through to advanced. Students usually get honesty, inspiration and some homework!
Surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful countryside in the heart of the National Forest, Stauntonvale offers the ideal training environment, with an excellent range of facilities, including fences, grassland, water, ditches, cover crops and young tree plantations.
One-to-one lessons and assessments, as well as group lessons, are sometimes available.
